First Visit

You will be greeted by our friendly team who will make sure you know what to expect from your first visit. Most people book their consultation and complete the forms online in the comfort of their own homes. However if you would prefer to complete the forms in the clinic we will just ask you to arrive 15 minutes before your appointment.

Once a member of our senior spinal team has reviewed your paperwork they will welcome you into the consultation room where you will discuss in detail your health concerns and goals. The senior spinal consultant will ask you lots of questions related to your presenting complaint but will also consider your overall health as well as your family history if appropriate.

At the end of this consultation (talking) part of the appointment the senior spinal consultant will proceed to the examination. If they feel that you are suffering with something that we cannot help with, we have a unique policy that we will refer you to the appropriate practitioner and you will not be charged for your appointment. We can help most people that come to our clinic, but we have set this policy to give you peace of mind.

What to Bring

If you would feel more comfortable, you are welcome to bring along a friend or family member to your consultation. Also, be sure to bring a list of any questions/concerns you may have so that you can discuss these with your senior spinal consultant. Please bring a list of any medications you may be taking and if you have had any x-ray/MRI/CT examinations recently and have a copy of the report, please bring those along. Your examination may involve you undressing and wearing either sports shorts/top or a medical gown. We have plenty available at the clinic, but you may want to bring your own. Please make sure that shorts (and sports bras for women) are tight fitting so that we can assess your posture properly.

Examination

The clinic offers a state of the art diagnostic suite including HD diagnostic ultrasound and a Digital X-ray system. We also use the latest LiDar posture scanners using truDepth Infra-red imaging to form a photo-realistic postural scan of your body. From this scan we can assess your posture and show you where your body is dysfunctional; identifying potential causes for the condition to relapse and most importantly, we use the scanners to re-assess you at regular intervals during your treatment plan without any additional radiation.

In addition, our senior spinal consultant will examine your spine (or relevant body parts) check how well you move and test your nervous system function by measuring your strength, reflexes and sensation.

At the end of the examination, the senior spinal consultant will have a good idea what is causing your problems!

Diagnostic Ultrasound - safe and non-invasive ultrasound is a great way to confirm what the senior spinal consultant is thinking.. It gives them a window to your body, allowing them to see damaged tissues, shows inflammation and allows them to visualise your injured parts in ultra High Definition 3D.

Digital X-ray– Our clinic has invested in a state of the art digital X-ray suite that would normally be found in a hospital. Sometimes ultrasound is not enough to visualise conditions such as Scoliosis, so we are making sure that we have the best quality and lowest radiation equipment available.

Report and Treatment

If appropriate, the senior spinal consultant will explain what they think is going on & discuss the treatment options. In some instances if you consent to treatment you may receive treatment on your first visit, although this would only be if you haven't needed any special tests that the senior spinal consultant needs to review after your appointment: examples are ultrasound scans or x-rays.

If treatment is not possible on your first visit we will do all we can to start your healing and to make you as comfortable as possible. This may involve recommendations to ice or stretch and treatment will commence on your next visit once the doctor has reviewed your file. We aim to schedule your second visit for a day or two later so there is no long waiting times.

What to expect at the Dorsi Spinal Institute.

The senior spinal consultant will need to see you several days after your first treatment to see how your body has responded to your first session and it is at this point that they will explain your condition in further detail and outline your full treatment plan. The Dorsi Method is set out this way because each person responds differently to treatment and so we use your first session as an indicator of how quickly we expect you to respond to care & use this information to design your treatment plan.
